Yesterday I was atlasing in several parts of the county with the highlight being a female Hooded Merganser with four half-grown young at Piney Run Park. This is the second consecutive year I have seen a brood of Hooded Mergs there.
   There were still some migrants to be found. Blackpoll Warblers are still singing in all areas. The only other migrant warbler I saw was a Northern Waterthrush at the north end of Liberty Lake. At Westminster Reservoir one DC Cormorant remained. At Piney Run were 5 Spotted Sandpipers. At Liberty Lake in the evening were one immature Red-breasted Merganser (on the Baltimore County side), one immature Common Loon, and 25 DC Cormorants (mostly immatures) with no sign of nesting.
