Tuesday morning, the 26th, I saw 6 Red Knots, oceanside, at the first primitive campsites in the National Park. They flushed and flew north.

Later that day I found an active Brown-headed nuthatch nest in a well-defined. excavated cavity in the branch of a pine tree. One of the pair, presumably the parents, was visiting the nest every one to three minutes while I watched. During one fifteen minute stretch, the pair successfully drove off two Great-crested Flycatchers (both at once) and a single Catbird (several times). The intruders were peering into the cavity when found by the pair .
