In reference to the discussion about whether the duck is a wild vagrant or
some escaped bird from a collection, please consider that in Florida where
these birds are fairly common it is not unusual for flocks of them to hang
around places like golf courses and retirement communities, as these
places often have the shallow, medium-sized bodies of water the ducks
prefer. A flock of them south of Sarasota, for example, hangs out on a
pond at Misty Creek Country Club with people milling around all over the
place. They are known to be wild and wander from pond to pond over a wide
area. Others in the state exhibit the same behavior, and are known to be
quite approacheable. I would not necessarily use that factor when
considering the status of this bird, but then again I am not the records
committee...
