At 4:15 this afternoon (Friday), I discovered that the bottom of the
Baltimore Oriole nest had broken out, maybe during the storm last night.
The four babies were on the ground under the tree and looked to be about 4
days old. The nest is about 30 feet up and not reachable. I took a 4
year old Orchard Oriole nest that I have (for teaching purposes) and tied
it to the same tree and put the babies in. Papa returned to the ground
looking to feed the babies and then Mama flew into the tree. After 15
minutes they still had not found the babies.

I figured that the birds could not survive if left on the ground. They
had ants crawling on them already and storms are predicted again for
tonight. Any thoughts if I should put them back on the ground or just
leave them in the 'new' nest and say a few prayers that they may be taken
care of?

Thanks
Jim Wilson
