Two empty robin's eggs in our driveway, and another white egg that is
much larger--
I guess squirrels or maybe crows are going after the protein? The
large white egg
was a surprise. I didn't think locally nesting birds had eggs so
large--almost as large as
a chicken's egg from what I can tell of the broken pieces.

Also nearby was the half-eaten corpse of a robin. Yesterday afternoon
it was there,
anyway. Today all that's left is part of a wing and a few clumps of
feathers. One
clump of four primaries was moving across the driveway. When I looked
closer, I saw a
large ant (the kind that are half black, half red) tugging on the
shaft end of the clump.
It would pull the feathers a fraction of an inch, reposition itself,
pull some more, let
go and scout ahead an inch or so, then return and tug. I watched for
a few minutes
in admiration, then went inside. When I went out again a few minutes
ago, the clump of
feathers was about eight feet from where it started. I didn't see the
ant, though.
I guess it either it gave up or was going for help.
