I'm a bit hung up on suburban and urban yellow-crowned night-herons
these days, but just wanted to ask if anyone has seen yellow-crowned
night-herons at the National Zoo this year. I've heard that last year
a pair nested among the dozens of black-crowned night-heron nests. I
was just in touch with one of the Bird House curators and asked if
they've seen any this year. The answer: Someone may have seen one.
The colony is back in the trees, perhaps behind the Bird House, so
it's not easy to see right now, but loitering birds, particularly in
a.m. or p.m. may be around.
