There is a book called Creating Sanctuary: A New Approach to Gardening in 
the Washington Metropolitan Area by Sherry Mitchell that does talk about 
native plants too. I've had good luck with hummingbirds coming to my deck 
planters with Cardinal Climber and Scarlet Runnerbean (planted seeds)
