Hi all

Last night I had two surprises. Stopping for gas at a station on North
Howard Street in Baltimore, I heard Common Nighthawks. (There were at least
two of them.) I grew up in Western Pa, where the peent of Nighthawks was
just a normal part of a lazy summer evening. However, after living in
Maryland for more than 30 years, the only times I have noticed nighthawks
were during migration. I was really excited to hear them mid-June!

My second surprise happened when I checked the common nighthawk in the
Yellow Book. It shows that nighthawks breed in most counties, including
Baltimore (which includes Balto City, I presume). It seems I was wrong in
assuming that Nighthawks just pass through here. But - holy toledo - from
the notation in the Yellow Book, it seems I should have run across summer
nighthawks in Maryland before now.

Can anyone help me sort this out?
