While atlasing early this AM in our southern-most PG block (so far south
as to be almost in St Mary's County), we found a not-so common "Common"
Moorhen (aka Florida Gallinule), in the estuary of a branch feeding into
Swanson Creek. The situation looks very similar to other spots where
this species occurs (e.g. the Choptank R at Rt 331; the Oxbow nr
Laurel). One, possibly 2, birds, were calling.
I believe this is now the only known location in PG Co for Moorhen, its
previous locales not having had it reported from since the current atlas
began.
Also of interest was a Warbling Vireo near the same location.
