I know, I know, I should be talking about Lyme Disease! I recently
returned from three weeks in the U.K., and it looks like deer ticks
were the only organisms seen in these parts while we were away.
(Seriously, many thanks to all who contributed to the thread; it was
both interesting and helpful.)

On my way back from a fairly fruitful visit to my Atlas block in NW
Montgomery/SW Frederick today, I traveled along the public road (Old
River Rd.) that runs more or less south from White's Ferry,
Montgomery County. I had hoped maybe to see an Upland Sandpiper, but
no such luck. But what I did see within a quarter-mile of one
another, were 5 (FIVE) American Kestrels. I have often seen Kestrels
along this stretch, but never more than two. It's not my Atlas
block, but dare we hope that Kestrels have successfully nested in this area?

I should also report that fear of ticks kept me on the C&O Canal
towpath and off any grassy fields today. I heard White-eyed Vireo and
Yellow-breasted Chat calling from the undergrowth, but I wasn't buying!
