It was 10 degrees cooler in the west, and gas was 25 cents a gallon cheaper
than at home!

I don't know about the rest of you but I found this to be one of the more
interesting comments on this list lately. While we all contemplate hiding
inside with our stamp collections so that the ticks can't eat us to the
bone, is anybody out there doing any less birding because of gas prices?
Personally I tend to do some birding over the line in PA (gasp!) because
I can gas up a vehicle on the trip at around 15-20 cents cheaper per gal. A
couple weeks ago we got it as low as $2.65 in Hanover, roughly 30 cents
cheaper than in Manchester. It has recently closed the gap a bit. When we
went up to NW Pa last weekend for some family stuff, we paid $2.79 on Friday
and when we got back on Sunday it was up a dime to 2.89. I realize most of
you don't live as close to the PA line as I do, but if you do it is often
worth the trip.
I heard it said on the idiot box lately that it would take at least
$4/gal for an extended period of time before Americans might consider
changing their driving habits. Birding is a gas-heavy sport. Almost as bad
as auto racing. Garrett County might be cooler and cheaper but for me it's a
three hour drive.
The one advantage I do notice when I go out there, I don't see as many
ticks. They like warmer climates more.
Just curious if the recent rise in gas prices is putting anybody off.
Respond off list or on if you have anything to say about it.
