Hi all,
   
    Decided to try birding early evening at Lake Needwood, despite the hot weather. The lake is low, with plenty of mud flat. Birds observed:
  7:45 pm
   
  3 Great Egrets (flying overhead)
  7-8 Great Blue Herons
  8-10 Killdeer
  7 +? Solitary Sandpipers
  6 Spotted Sandpipers
  Several "peeps" (light was fading- semipalm or least?)
  2 Green Herons
  4 Mallards
  5 Wood Ducks (some in eclipse plumage)
  Cedar Waxwings (several)
  American Goldfinches
   Redwing blackbirds
  2 Black Vultures
   
  D. Ford
  Bethesda, Md.
