Out atlassing at 7:30 am when there was still a lot of bird activity, including at least 6 Wood Thrush singing from the hillsides as I followed a brookside trail.

Some years ago I recall that some naturalist pointed out that wood thrushes don't sing in August! Does anyone else remember that? I found a nest, but like most of my recent observations, it was a "reconfirmation".

Pairs of Kentucky Warblers and Hooded Warblers were upset by my passing. A Yellow-billed Cuckoo called repeatedly.

On the way back down the trail the cicada noise predominated and the birds had fallen silent.
