MD Osprey:
Harvey and Marion Mudd and I saw the EUCD today (8/13/2006) between
10 and 11 am. Here is some logistics information and suggestions ...
From Frederick, MD take US 340 west. Take the exit for Mt. Zion Road
and head north. The Stadler Nursery is about 1/4 mile north, on the
left (west) side of the road. A map is here ...
http://www.stadlergardencenters.com/general.php
It's the second map ... the one for Frederick, not Laytonsville
(Montgomery County).
Park on the right (northbound) side of the road, rather than pulling
into the Sadler's lot. Look for the bird from the roadside. I think
there is no need to go into the nursery.
As with Paul Pisano and Rob Hilton, we found the bird in the large
trees on the north side of the nursery but mostly further north of
the nursery. Immediately to the north of the nursery are the metal
building associated with the Gladhill Furniture Company. We found the
bird on the peak of the roofs and on the metal stacks and on the
water tank. A bit further north is a building for the Walter W. King
Plumbing and Heating Contractor that has a brick chimney. The bird
sat on this chimney a lot. (These business have their access from Rt
180; the intersection being about another 1/4 mile north of the
nursery. We also had the bird flying across Mt. Zion Road and sitting
on the roof of the E-quip building.
In the area were also one Rock Pigeon and lots of MODOs.
There are two accepted records for Maryland, with several more that
are under review.
Hope this helps ...
