Today I was butterflying with Debbie Terry at the Glendenning Preserve in Anne Arundel County. We were surprised to see a molting adult male Myrtle Warbler there. The bird was scruffy-looking and had a rather short tail. I was prepared to call it almost anything until I saw the yellow crown spot and the yellow at the side of the breast. It also had the darker gray plumage of the male with no brown tones. This is the first time I have seen a Myrtle Warbler in August.
