 Hi Folks!

I was amazed to see two COMMON RAVENS cross Rt.260 in Paris, Calvert County on my ride home yesterday[8/30/06]! Neither bird showed any sign of molt, but I did not get a good enough look to determine if they were adults that had completed molt or birds of the year. The location is by a major vulture roost. A year ago the July Raven in Baltimore County was a shock....but now with birds breeding in SE Baltimore County and eastern Frederick I have a feeling that a range expansion is in progress. The new cell towers that are appearing across the landscape have become the vulture roosts of today and possibly the raven nests of tomorrow.

Good Birding!

Jim
