Lake Needwood, Derwood Road, Montgomery County, 3 Sep 06, 1400
With the sun finally breaking through, I decided to drive over to Lake
Needwood to try for the Ruddy Turnstone. No luck with the Ruddy despite the
efforts of a steady stream of birders stopping by for a look. Shorebirds
observed included a dozen or more Killdeer, 1 Lesser Yellowlegs, and a mixed
flock of 20 or so Semipalmated and Least Sandpiper. All was not lost when
Pat Caro (sp.?) of Frederick County pointed to a nearby willow where a
Black-billed Cuckoo presented itself for some great looks.
