Hola,
I'm writing from Holland Point, Maryland, from our house on the bay in
extreme southeastern Anne Arundel County, just north of the Calvert line. It's
light rain here, with winds ranging from an estimated 25-35 mph from the
northeast and east-northeast, with gusts a little higher. Aside from the steady
diet of Royal Terns, Laughing Gulls, Forster's Terns, and Ring-billed Gulls,
I've seen one distant Jaeger, two or three distant dark-mantled terns, and a
few Common Terns. There are scattered shorebirds flying by too, but I don't
know what they are either. Pretty much anything that might have been notable,
I haven't seen well enough or long enough to identify it.
I spoke to Ned Brinkley in Northampton County, Virginia this morning while
he was doing some birding in driving rain and high wind. He reports three
subadult or adult (not juvenile) Bridled Terns flying over Seaside Road just
south of Jones Cove Road. His other stops included Cape Charles Harbor where he
had a couple (few?) Black Terns; a stop along Arlington Road that had a
Sandwich Tern in a field; and a similar mix of shorebirds at the location he
reported from yesterday.
Cheers,
Todd
