Hi all,

Quite a bit of activity at Rock Creek Park, DC today -- lots of birders and a good selection of migrants, high on diversity but rather low on numbers of individuals. Maybe many of the birds simply flew over, it being such a good clkear night with a full moon (anyway, that sounds like a reason...)

We did the Ridge (picnic areas 17/18), the Maintenance Yard, and Military Field. Rob Hilton was leading a field trip so there quite a few eyes...some birds below reported by others.

Warblers: Black-and-White (4), Blackburnian (2), Black-throated Green (2), Back-throated Blue (2), Blackpoll (2), Bay-breasted (1, still showing a lot of bay along the flanks), BREWSTER'S (1, male, probably 1st generation cross), Cape May (1, very dull immature), Chestnut-sided (5), Magnolia (2), Parula (1), Redstart (7-8), Tennessee (1), Wilson's (1), Yellowthroat (4).

Other migrants: Yellow-billed Cuckoo (1), Cuckoo sp. (1), Rose-breasted Grosbeak (2), Scarlet Tanager (4), Baltimore Oriole (8), ORCHARD ORIOLE (1, female -- unusual for this location), Great Crested Flycatcher (2), Wood-pewee (12), Empid sp. (1), Acadian FC (1), Red-eyed Vireo (~20), Warbling Vireo (1), Ruby-throated Hummingbird (3), House Wren (8).

Rob and some of his group saw a very interesting flycatcher that didn't stay around for everyone but seen twice, best ID an immature Western Kingbird --
