Greetings
This morning, Friday (9/22), I too ventured to Assateague and spent most of
the time at the Baysaide camping area. Obviously, with south winds I was not
expecting the same results that the two H's had. Actually I had not read
this report until five minutes ago...
I only had a handful of warblers with the surprise (to me) being 6 western
Palm Warblers. I guess I have always associated this bird with October.
Other Warblers were first winter female Cape May, Black-throated Green,
Common Yellowthroat, Black and White, Magnolia, and Redstart. There were
plenty of other warblers passing over head, but I can't even begin to wonder
what they were... Other migrants in order of most common were: Catbird,
Northern Flicker, Baltimore Oriole, Red-eyed Vireo, BownThrasher, White-eyed
Vireo, Greater Yellowlegs, Tri-colered Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret,
Little Blue Heron, Royal Tern, Caspian Tern, Forster's Tern, DC Cormerant,
Chipping Sparrow, Field Saprrow, Peregrin Falcon at the Verrazano Bridge!...
I am sure I am forgetting something(s).
Good Birding,
Chris Starling
