While kayaking just south of Parker's Creek in central Calvert County this
afternoon (Sunday 9/24), a closer look (with binoculars) at what we assumed
to be a Great Egret revealed that it had pale yellow-gray legs. We landed
and were able to watch it for awhile, confirming the non-black legs and
that it was a very large bird.

Several people, including Joe, and me at a distance, had seen what we
thought was a Great Egret on and off for more than a week, including a
photographer in the creek last Sunday, our fall count day. After seeing the
bird today, I contacted him, and he has two photos of a large white heron
with non-black legs.

Since the photograph was taken on the same day a Great White was reported
in Kent County, it seems that there may be more than one around.

Our bird eventually flew north toward the creek as a person was approaching
on the beach. Past sightings, if it was the same bird, range from Parker's
Creek to two miles south at the Scientists' Cliffs Beach.
