Spent a couple hours at Hughes Hollow late morning hoping to find Marsh
Wrens reported by Don Simonson a few days back. No luck. Had a brief
glimpse of small dark wren but could not get binos on it time and it
never showed again. Despite no M. Wren, it was really a nice couple of
hours with the best looks I ever had of RED-HEADED WOODPECKER (2),
White-eyed Vireo (2), and RUSTY BLACKBIRD (2). Warblers were sparse;
Black and White, Magnolia and C. Yellowthroat. Enjoyed watching a
couple bird vs. bird confrontations, first between a Sharp-shinned Hawk
and a lone Bluejay and a little later some mid-air posturing between a
Cooper's and a Red-shouldered Hawk.
Briefly stopped by polo grounds. Nothing on ground but at one point an
adult Bald Eagle and an American Kestrel flew fairly low across field
from opposite ends, found the same thermal and together spiraled way up.
