MD Osprey:

An update ...

As most of you know, most rehabilitators will not go out and pick up
birds. As suggested by a few people, I spoke to Second Chance in
G'Burg and they suggested that Animal Control might transport it if
it was injured. I called Prince George's County Animal Management
Division and they dispatched an officer who talked directly to my
wife. The officer did not find the bird at that location on the first
pass, although she said she would make a second pass over the area.
My wife is familiar enough with hawks to think that it was not just
feeding on prey, but maybe that was inded the case (it was just
sitting on the group and looking around in the same place, 48 hours a
part, and apparently not mantling prey or actively plucking or
eating). The officer said the area was a pretty rich ecosystem (in
fact, she was startled by a snake!).

It was nice to know that Prince George's County Animal Management
Division was so responsive. In fact, the officer told my wife that
this kind of call gets top priority ... over snakes in the basement, etc.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Phil
