I'm looking for advice on some birding hot spots for the week of Oct. 16-
21, somewhat beyond the normal MD Osprey range. I've got a lovely work trip
planned that will have me driving to Virginia Beach, VA via Salisbury/rte.
13/ Chesapeake Bridge/Tunnel, then Deep Creek Lake MD via Herndon VA, and
then on to Charleston WV for Friday and Saturday conference. I know there
are many good spots to bird along the way, and I hope to have enough time
between work events and driving to find a few birds. Any suggestions about
places to not miss?

I have material from the web and books, but am hoping for input from those
who have been there recently or know these areas well, since I won't have a
LOT of time for birding (this is a work trip!) Please reply offline.

I did manage 45 minutes at Blackwater on the way to Salisbury on Monday
evening for a similar work trip. A dozen or so Caspian terns, 3 bald
eagles, a solitary sandpiper, and one tundra swan were the most noteworthy
birds. It was pretty quiet otherwise, but always a beautiful spot,
particularly at sunset.

Thanks for any advice/directions you can send my way!

Claudia
