Late Saturday afternoon at Dumbarton Oaks Park (NW Washington) a Woodcock flew across the path about 3 feet in front of me then landed about a foot off the path and maybe 6-8 feet from where I stood watching. Even w/o binocs on that grey & drizzly day I got good looks. After about a minute it flew up again & out of sight.
And re: Wall Street Journal's "Catalog Critic" review of binoculars last Friday (10/6), my impression was there has to be a more knowledge writer on the WSJ staff. Even as an article for beginning birders I found it unimpressive.
