Hi all --

Well, Barry and I seem to be batting 1000 when it comes to "go out of town, miss rare bird nearby" -- this time it was the Bullock's Oriole in our "patch" at Rock Creek, while we were in England. While we may not have seen it (sounds as if it was there late in the morning), still...

We are thinking of setting up a "Send Barry and Gail Away" fund which will undoubtedly result in a lot of good birds added to (other) Maryland/DC birders' lists. Details to follow.

However, the trip to England was good -- it was Barry's mum's 100th birthday party -- we also managed to twitch a few good birds, including a Daurian Shrike and a Pallas' Warbler (which, unlike many old world warblers, is a stunning bird). Oh, and a Buff-breasted Sandpiper, our only buffy for 2006.

Our garden is now hosting a number of Golden-crowned Kinglets in the pines. Autumn is finally here.
