After several days of unpromising weather, this morning looked good and I
managed to get out to Ft. Bayard for a little while. It's a nice brisk
morning out there, and we've definitely had some movement, but the birds
were still hard to find. I heard a single possible snippet of a bluebird
call, which would have been a great bird for the park, but alas, I can't be
sure.
The best actual bird was a Catharus thrush I eventually decided had to be a
HERMIT THRUSH, no great rarity, but only my second for the park and my first
for the fall, when thrushes are especially scarce here. Also had two
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS. There were a lot of birds moving overhead that I
couldn't ID and that didn't stop in the park--I suspect many of them were
Yellow-rumps. Also another EASTERN PHOEBE, which are starting to become
downright common here.
