I had a Ruby-throated Hummingbird at my feeder from the beginning of October
through Monday the 23rd. Whether this was one bird or a series of migrants
getting breakfast to go, I don't know. I haven't seen a hummer since Monday,
but I've also been really busy and may have missed it. Typically I
would see the bird(s)
just after sunup. On Monday, when the temperature was below 40, the hummer
was whirring its wings while it was perched, I assume to get or stay warm.
I hope it is far south of here by now.

On Wednesday, I saw a Titmouse perched on the red feeder cover (I
have a humzinger),
and I wondered why, until yesterday when I saw a Chickadee fly onto
the wire that
suspends the feeder from a branch. It hung on the wire and reached
down for a drink
of water from the ant moat.
