A rare lunchtime walk around the FDR Memorial, the DC Veteran's
Memorial and Constitution Gardens produced Golden-crowned
Kinglets almost anywhere I happened to be. Two separate Cooper's
Hawks, one at the FDR Memorial, the other on the Mall next to the
Department of Agriculture North Building, silenced the local birds.
Highlights also included American Coots, a Pied-billed Grebe
and a Great Egret at the Constitution Gardens pond and an Eastern
Phoebe nearby.
What did I not see? Any Canada Geese (!?!?), few sparrows
of any kind, nary a warbler.
