Birded on Assateague Island today. Nice NW winds, dawn flight at Bayside
largely limited to American Robins with a few blackbirds, with some (but not
a huge) flight of Myrtles. Highlight here Blue-headed Vireo (2, photos),
Rusty Blackbird (2), and Pine Siskin (1, usually get here annually with
enough coverage, even in non-flight years).
Inland, big enjoyment was the number of Hermit Thrushes (total for day 145),
mostly feeding on every piece of grass at Bayside/Inland, Oceanside
Campground and along Bayberry Drive. Not a Worcester high count (but would
have been with enough field work), 181 banded at Ocean City, 10/22/1967.
Also two Orange-crowned Warblers, one at Bayside/Inland and one at Oceanside
Campground. Great sparrow numbers, but limited diversity.
