I finally took the time to look for the Great White Heron at Eastern Neck
NWR today (Sat., 11/4) and I'm sorry to say that I did not find it. Perhaps
it flew south with the cold front, or maybe it was just hunkered down out of
sight. Lots of birds about, including many of the migrants reported
elsewhere. Passerines of note included EASTERN PHOEBE (c.8-10), PURPLE
FINCH (3-4 flew over), HERMIT THRUSH (c.5), DARK-EYED JUNCO (many),
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW (many), yellow PALM WARBLER (1), and HOUSE WREN (1).
Also noteworthy was a late OSPREY (1 imm.).

I also stopped by Great Oak Pond, which was loaded with geese. Mostly
CANADA & white SNOW GEESE, plus a few CACKLING and blue SNOWS. Failed to
find anything more unusual than that, but a great day to be out nonetheless.

Good birding,
