Hi All,

Nancy and I will be leading a Kent County Bird Club trip to Blackwater
NWR with extensions to other southern Dorchester County locations on
Saturday the 11th. We will meet local observers at 7:00 AM at the Dollar
General Store lot across from the end of Spring St. This will be an all
day outing, so bring a lunch, some outdoor clothing in case of inclement
weather, and wear layers in expectation of seasonal temperature shifts
through the day. We expect excellent numbers of waterfowl, e.g. a recent
pintail count came to 1250; landbirds of piney woods (including
Brown-headed Nuthatch); raptors (lots of Bald Eagles and harriers);
herons; and shorebirds (a few species). Last weekend an observer spotted
a small flock of White Pelicans from the Wildlife Drive (presumably the
same birds that wintered in 2005-06). If you wish to meet us at
Blackwater HQ off Key Wallace Drive please let us know, we should arrive
there from 8:15 to 8:30 AM.

Good birding,

Walter Ellison & Nancy Martin
