Thank you, Mark. I also got 7 offline replies, and the consensus is
Swamp Sparrow. I had no idea they were so colorful.
I think it would be useful to other sparrow novices like me to post
the most complete response I got, which was from Kurt Schwarz:
"Looks like a young Swamp Sparrow. Note rufous in wings, gray
collar, gray breast with faint streaking, beginning to coalesce into
a central spot, white throat patch."
