For the first time, a Cormorant was found swimming at the Oxbow Lake Nature
Preserve (a marshy pond, shallow water area) on Saturday. Of course, the
first thought was Double-crested, but now maybe a closer look with a scope is
needed. Centennial Lake in Howard County is only 18 miles from Oxbow Lake in
Anne Arundel County.

Also, another duck species, American Black Duck, has arrived at the Oxbow.

Jay Sheppard discovered a primitive duck/goose blind built on Gallinule Point
(where the Common Moorhens were found this past Spring) on Saturday.
We've reported it to MD DNR and AACo (the owners of the property the blind is
on and the property on which hunters must cross to reach the blind). Whether
hunting is legal or not must be determined. But, hopefully, the hunters can tell
the difference between Trumpeter Swan #960 and everything else on the lake.
