Jim Brighton and myself covered the north end of Assateague for the Rarity
Roundup, north of the main road to the Ocean City Inlet. It is roughly seven
miles to the inlet, this was the third year we have covered this area for
the count. We started walking at 5:20am and finished up around 3:15. We
tallied 67 species for the day and had several that were new during our
coverage of this area. Highlights were as follows...

Richardson's Goose 1
Snow Goose 1
Common Eider 2
Parasitic Jeager 1
Lesser Black-backed Gull 1
Semipalmated Plover 1
Willet 1
Osprey 1
Least Sandpiper 11
Snow Bunting 11
Ipswich Sparrow 24
Saltmarsh Sparrow 1
sharp-tailed Sparrow sp. 1

We had large numbers of Scoter, Dunlin, Sanderling, and Canada Geese. We
missed the flocks of Cormorant, Gannet, and Brant that have been impressive
in previous years. We did have the best weather and sand conditions yet,
which made for an enjoyable day.

Cheers,

Hans
