This morning I heard the sounds of many, many robins in the holly tree in our back yard.
A huge flock had descended and was busily and noisily stripping all the berries from this
25'+ holly tree. As I mentioned in an earlier post, every year they seem to come earlier
and earlier. If they eat all the berries in November, what are they going to do for food in
January?
Is this mass feeding behavior a new phenomenon? Are these local robins or migrants?
Although it refers to the English species, not our robin/thrushes, I am reminded of a
childhood nurery rhyme:
"The North Wind doth blow,
And we shall have snow
And what will the Robin do then, poor thing?
He'll hide in the barn
To keep himself warm
And tuck his head under his wing, poor thing."
