This is an out of area posting.
I spent the morning at Bombay Hook in Delaware. While driving around the
pools, an old-timer stopped and told me that there was a Trumpeter Swan at
the end of Shearness Pool. He said that he had been birding Bombay Hook for
70 years and this was the first one he had seen there and it was a life bird for
him. He was really excited.
I found the bird and it did appear to be a Trumpeter Swan. There were
Tundra Swans nearby for comparison. I saw no banding tags, but I had six
young kids with me that I had to pay more attention to than the swan.
Back to Maryland: While driving from Queenstown to Marydel, we counted 10
Red Tailed Hawks basking in the early morning sun.
