I've posted the image Dave referenced in his earlier mess
Hi Everyone,

I've posted the image Dave referenced in his earlier message at http://billhubick.com/refc/Jodi_sbird.jpg.

Between a quick check of "A Guide to the Pigeons and Doves of the World" (Gibbs et al) and the Internet, I believe the bird to be a Crested Pigeon (Geophaps lophotes). This species, which is native to Australia, perfectly matches the plumage of this interesting bird. Another quick search confirmed that this bird is sometimes kept in captivity. For more information and a close-up image:

Very interesting find, Connie! A definite candidate for "Exotic of the Year"!

Neat.

Dear Ospreyers,

This photo was sent to me by someone who saw it in Caroline County. can anyone identify it? It looks to me like some relative of a European Turtle Dove but I don't have field guides or personal experience of birding in Asia or Africa.

I'll be away till the weekend so i'll leave the observer's contact info. (Connie Cook mailto:[log in to unmask] )

Happy Thanksgiving

Dave
