On Sat. Dec. 16 I counted in the Essex area where I was surprised to
see a pair of Red-breasted Mergansers in Back River east of the bridge
and south of Eastern Avenue. At Coxs Point Park, I had a Gray Catbird.
Next I covered the Bowley's Quarter territory with Judy Harding and we
had a soaring juvenile Bald Eagle and 2 beautiful Swamp Sparrows at
Miami Beach.
Duck and gull populations seemed to be much lower in these territories
than I can remember.
