Today I birded Piscataway Park Accokeek Creek (starting at parking area
located across from 2800 Bryan Point Road). You can park in the lot by the
road or you can drive in and park in the lot at the entrance of the boardwalk
along the Potomac River. This was a wonderful place (especially on the
boardwalk) and had many different habitats for birding. The trail goes through
open fields, marshes, and woods. It follows the Potomac River and provides
opportunities for some close up looks at the waterfowl.
In the morning at the boardwalk, there were 23 Tundra Swans, a mixture of
adult and immatures. They were singing to each other and I was mesmerized. I
listened and watched them as long as they stayed. Eventually, an eagle
scared them away.
