Recent postings about global warming, strange migration patterns,
and Cardinals in Minnesota got my attention.
More weirdness - here is a report from the Grand Marais, Minnesota
Christmas bird count. They had Cardinals but none of the usual
winter finches. Grand Marais is on the coast of Lake Superior, 110
miles northeast of Duluth.
"Lots of chickadees and nuthatches, also Cardinals in the area, but
few of the usual winter finches. No Pine Siskins, Redpolls, Pine
Grosbeaks or Evening Grosbeaks. Some of those have been reported
well south of here, the rest must be finding food further north so far."
Guess these phenomena are not limited to the East Coast this winter.
