I found my first ever winter Bobwhite convey today around noon at Greenbury
Point. I had read that the Bobwhites winter less than 10 miles from their
breeding ground. Of course I don't know if these are are the same ones
that spent the spring & summer here. Anyway, I have been hoping to find
them there.
There were six of them less than five feet from the trail (the Bobwhite
Trail, no less), and I inadvertedly flushed them when I got within ten feet
of them. They flew off about 30 yards north to where the field meets the
young tree line.
Also in the field were four White-crowned sparrows and one American Kestrel.
