Very early this morning (even in the rain):

A Carolina Wren was loudly singing from the deck.

Upon returning home from the "Start your list up" Howard County BC outing, I
was greeted by:

Several bluebirds despondently wing-waving and looking for their mealworms.

A very, very vocal contingent of chickadees and titmice. They seemed to
complaining on general principles, as they had plenty of nutmeats and suet.
Perhaps they were taking a more militant stance on the mealworms. I will
never know.

Just before dusk:

Several towhees "dweeting" to remind me that they are still over-wintering
in the brush and really should be added to the 2007 list (along with those
very important sparrows).

Happy New Year's,
