Ospreyers,

You are invited to join us for this presentation by an eminent birder.

BIRDERS, CONSERVATION, AND REFUGES - MAKING BETTER CONNECTIONS. Paul J. Baicich. The Anne Arundel Bird Club hosts bird expert Paul Baicich on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. at Arlington Echo Environmental Education Center, Millersville, MD. The linkage between bird conservation, popular birding, and National Wildlife Refuge development will be discussed. Looking back through the late 19th century and then into the 20th century, he will discuss the era of preservation, the era of conservation, the era of environmentalism, and the current era facing us today. Paul will let us know what we as active birders can learn about the present-day needs of National Wildlife Refuges, the larger lessons involved, and the growing needs of birders looking into the future. Paul J. Baicich has been an active birder since his early teens in New York City. While with the American Birding Association, he organized their conferences and conventions and later edited 14 of the ABA Birdfinding Guides, from 1990 to late 1997. From late 1997 to early 2002 he edited Birding, ABA's bi-monthly magazine. He then served as ABA's Director of Conservation and Public Policy until late 2003. He has co-authored (with the late Colin Harrison) a book entitled a Guide to the Nests, Eggs, and Nestlings of North American Birds, published in 1997. Paul also has co-led a number of birding tours to Alaska, is on the Management Board of the Prairie Pothole Joint Venture, a member of the Waterbird Conservation Council.
