A mid-morning visit to Tilghman Island on this beautiful January day
provided a chance to see many of the seasonal waterfowl of the Bay, but with
the highlight that the Bay waters down there were absolutely loaded with
Northern Gannets. Their numbers were in the 100's! Most were in the water,
but occasionally one would lift up, fly a bit, and then plunge back in. One
could watch and count until tiring of the counting - by far the most I have
seen in my 10 or so years of visiting that site.
    Birds seen:
Common Loon-2
Northern Gannet-several hundred
Brown Pelican-10
DC Cormorant-20+
Long-tailed Duck-many
Black Scoter-4
Surf Scoter-many
White-winged Scoter-1
Common Goldeneye-many
Bufflehead-many
Red-breasted Merganser-2
---and the usual Gulls

Up the road a bit, in the vicinity of Lowe's Wharf, a few other species
were added:
Greater Scaup-2
Kildeer
Field Sparrow
Savannah Sparrow
Song Sparrow
