Hi all

I'm no expert - I saw my first female Barrow's about a year ago in New
Jersey, and its bill was nearly all yellow. It was swimming with Common
Goldeneyes, and the common females with it had various degrees of yellow in
the bill, some exceeding 50%. The high forehead sounds exciting. Did he
notice whether the rear of the head showed a fringed appearance?

A recent issue of Birding (I forget the date but it's within the last month
or two) has a nice article on female Goldeneyes.
