This general line of thinking occurred to me, too, but really I can't 
see anything wrong with throwing a little birdseed on the ground to 
attract a sparrow. After all, it's not just the one bird that eats it. 
Lots of birds and animals will. The worst that could happen is we end up 
with some very well-fed birds and squirrels.
