I spent much of the afternoon in Dorchestor County and was able to find the
pair of Eurasian Collared Doves on Hooper Island. My best views of the birds
was at 2568 Hooper Island Road, just to the north of where they were
reported yesterday. The birds were either on the house or on the ground
under the feeders in the front yard. I watched the doves for about 10
minutes when one flew to the south. The other stopped in a tree near me,
where I looked at it briefly before it too flew to the south. In a brief search, I
was unable to relocate the birds, either at 2568 or 2546 or 2542. I only heard
one of the birds vocalize once.
At Blackwater I saw the group of at least 24 White Pelicans. I was able to
view them from the small pull-off/parking area along MD 335, just south of Key
Wallace Drive. The birds were clustered fairly closely together and there may
have been a few more hiding in the background. This is a nice vantage point
of the wetlands and ponds without having to drive the entire Blackwater
driving tour. Also, at Hooper Island I was unable to find any Goldeneye.
