Mikey Lutmerding and I went East yesterday (Monday 1/15). After a
few short detours we stopped and found the CLAY-COLORED SPARROW
previously posted for the site at Bulle Rock Parkway (directions
obtained from Dave Ziolkowski's post from 1/3 about a Dickcissel). We
ran into Joe Byrnes and Jeff Cullen there and they suggested we walk
along both sides of the hedgerow slowly and quietly which worked. Mikey
spotted it in a Greenbriar about halfway down the hedgerow. It fed on
the grass on the Construction side once or twice and was back and forth
in a couple of spots in the thicket.
Our plans were similar to Joe and Jeff's so we also birded with them
at Northeast Community Park in Northeast MD (Cecil County) where we had
two Lesser Black-backed Gulls (1 each 1st winter and 2nd winter). We
left Joe and Jeff there to go explore down the "other side" of the bay.
We went to Great Oak Pond where Mikey found a sleeping GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE in a big group of Canadas. A Bald Eagle came over
and flushed most of the Snow Geese but we relocated them in a field off
of Fish Hatchery Road and Mikey then also found a ROSS' GOOSE.
A pretty nice day. By then it was getting dark and we headed for home.
