Sean Flint of Blackwater N.W.R. has requested that this notice be posted to
MDOSPREY. Here is a chance to see remote parts of these refuges and to
help add to our knowledge of Chesapeake marshbirds. - Harry Armistead, 523

The staff at Chesapeake Marshlands National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Complex
in Cambridge Maryland is seeking assistance from experienced birders to
conduct secretive marsh bird call-back surveys. Data from call-back
surveys is being used to monitor the breeding status of the following
species in the marshes at Blackwater, Martin, and Eastern Neck NWR: black,
sora, Virginia, king, and clapper rails, least and American bitterns,
common moorhen, American coot, and pied-billed grebe. Survey routes are
accessed by land and water (water primarily). Each survey route will be
visited 3 times per year beginning in mid-May and continuing until the end
of June. Individuals surveying those routes that require the use of a
motor boat will be required to attend a U.S. Fish and Wildlife sponsored
motorboat operator training course before operating Refuge motorboats.
Housing is available at Blackwater, Martin and Eastern Neck NWR. For more
information please contact Sean Flint.
